Dear Magical Diary: Post Nine
Dear Magical Diary,
Note: As part of my "Charm School" project with Cara Mia of Cutewitch772 this summer, I have decided to keep a daily and public magical diary. In what we're calling the Charm School Syllabus (a list of suggested tasks for someone seeking a first degree initiation published in Silver RavenWolf's book To Stir a Magick Cauldron), one task is "Provide a magickal diary to your instructor that encompasses one full year of your magickal experiences." Now, this task doesn't explicitly state that this diary needs daily entries, but I have decided to write daily as best I can.
Yesterday, after recording my thoughts in my magical diary, I embarked on a walk to the nearby forest. It was there that I dedicated time to practicing my circle castings, an essential skill that I am diligently working to memorize. Within the grove of the forest, I carefully performed an Alexandrian circle casting from What Witches Do. Immersed in the sacred energy of nature, I drew the Eight of Wands from my tarot deck, signaling movement and swift progress. (The question I asked had something to do with some anger that I had toward my husband and a general malaise that I woke up with.) With gratitude and reverence, I closed the circle and made my way back home.
In addition to my magical practice, I utilized the day to enhance the efficiency of my business operations. Although I didn't have any clients, I delved into new techniques that promised to streamline my workflow. Furthermore, I took care of practical matters, such as grocery shopping and ensuring that my husband's car received its much-needed oil change. Amidst the tasks, I also managed to remove the polish from my nails, preparing them for the vibrant colors of the rainbow spell that I intend to perform tonight.
Later in the day, my husband and I indulged in a relaxed evening together, engaging in a spirited game of Connect Four. Although I must admit that he emerged victorious in our three-game series, the laughter and joy shared between us provided a much-needed respite from the demands of daily life.
Regarding my study of What Witches Do, I have devoted time to reading and absorbing the chapter titled "What Witches Believe." However, I find myself grappling with the task of formulating questions for the study guide I am creating. The plethora of facts presented in this section, combined with my nuanced perspectives on what witches believe, has left me contemplating deeply. It is crucial for me to approach this task with an open mind, embracing the diversity of beliefs within the magical community and to recognize the era in which it was written. (There's a weird anti-racist bit that uses an outdated racial term that also threw me for a loop. I get what he's trying to say, but it sounds bad to my 2023 ears.)
As I conclude my diary entry for today, I look forward to immersing myself once again in the soothing embrace of the forest. Carrying my tarot cards, I am eager to seek guidance and insight from the energies that surround me. Following my walk, I will return to my mundane responsibilities, attending to a client scheduled from 10 am to 2 pm. With that commitment fulfilled, I will dive back into the preparation for the labyrinth class that I am eagerly teaching this Sunday. To further enrich my understanding of labyrinths, I aim to complete reading Walking a Sacred Path by Lauren Artress and revisit Labyrinths from the Inside Out by Donna Schaper and Carole Ann Camp. Handouts and note sheets for the class participants are also on my agenda, ensuring that they have valuable resources to accompany their labyrinth journey.
As the weekend approaches, I recognize the need to print these materials before we embark on pet-sitting for my mother-in-law. Time is of the essence, and I aim to have everything in order before Friday arrives.
In the midst of my busy schedule, I remind myself of the importance of self-care and mindfulness. By tending to both my magical and practical pursuits, I nurture a sense of balance and harmony in my life, allowing me to serve others and myself with grace and authenticity.
May the wisdom of the forest and the magic within guide me throughout this eventful day.
Yours under the stars, Stella
