Note: As part of my "Charm School" project with Cara Mia of Cutewitch772 this summer, I have decided to keep a daily and public magical diary. In what we're calling the Charm School Syllabus (a list of suggested tasks for someone seeking a first degree initiation published in Silver RavenWolf's book To Stir a Magick Cauldron), one task is "Provide a magickal diary to your instructor that encompasses one full year of your magickal experiences." Now, this task doesn't explicitly state that this diary needs daily entries, but I have decided to write daily as best I can.
Yesterday was an unexpected day of self-care and exploration. As my client canceled last minute due to a family emergency, I found myself with an unexpected free day. Seizing the opportunity, I delved into the remaining chapters of Walking a Sacred Path by Lauren Artress, immersing myself in the profound wisdom of labyrinth walking. The book opened my eyes to the transformative power of this ancient practice, reminding me of the importance of introspection and inner journeys.
Eager to connect with nature and rejuvenate my spirit, I ventured to a nearby small local waterfall. The cascading water filled the air with a sense of serenity, and I allowed its gentle rhythm to wash away any lingering stress or worries. In that moment, I felt a deep connection with the elemental forces, and I couldn't help but marvel at the beauty and resilience of nature.
To treat myself and indulge in simple pleasures, I stopped by a local ice cream parlor near the falls. It was a simple walk to the outdoor counter type spot that also serves pizza. The delightful flavors (turtles and chocolate) tantalized my taste buds, reminding me of the importance of savoring life's small joys. As I enjoyed my cone, I reflected on the concept of self-care as an act of resistance, a way to reclaim our own well-being and nourish ourselves in a world that often demands our constant productivity and sacrifice.
Embracing the spirit of exploration, I also took the opportunity to go shopping, seeking out unique treasures that resonated with my magical journey. Each item I found carried its own significance, adding to the tapestry of my personal practice. As the day drew to a close, I immersed myself in the soothing waters of the condo pool, allowing the water to caress my skin and wash away any residual tensions or negative energies. It was a blissful moment of relaxation and release, but it was a bit chilly out, so once I hopped out for the lifeguard's break, I headed home.
Today has been a busy day filled with meaningful engagements. I started my morning by meditating with a finger labyrinth, guiding my thoughts and intentions along its intricate paths. This meditative practice centered me and set a harmonious tone for the day ahead.
Following my morning ritual, I had back-to-back clients, tending to their needs and offering my services. It fills me with a sense of purpose to support others on their journeys, empowering them to navigate their challenges and awaken their inner strength. I alternated listening to a Lizzo playlist and to a new-to-me cozy mystery book while I worked (The Diva Runs Out of Thyme by Krista Davis.) I have a loose structure for an eight-part witchy cozy mystery series, but I am making myself finish my memoir first (which is slow going, but you can read three different excerpts on my Patreon. One features nudity and the other masturbation, so if you want a cheap, lurid thrill, get on over there. I kid.)
In the evening, I attended a captivating class about tea traditions from around the world at the local library. Exploring the diverse cultural practices and the symbolism behind tea rituals resonated deeply with my feminist witchcraft perspective. It reminded me of the power of traditions, both ancient and modern, to foster connection, mindfulness, and community, but so many traditions bore the mark of colonialism, too. It was an interesting class, and now I have a fantasy of owning an old Russian samovar. (Don't worry; my minimalist heart won't let me.)
Despite the busyness of the day, I received a last-minute client request for tomorrow, which leaves me with limited time to print handouts for the labyrinth class I am teaching on Sunday. However, I embrace the opportunity to adapt and innovate. I will find creative solutions, such as preparing a digital version or making resources available for participants to access at a later time. It's essential to remain flexible and resourceful on our magical journeys, finding ways to honor our commitments while still caring for ourselves.
As the day comes to a close, I carry a sense of fulfillment and gratitude. Today has been a reminder of the interconnectedness between self-care, social justice, and magical practice. By nurturing ourselves, engaging in self-reflection, and supporting others, we contribute to a more empowered and compassionate world. May tomorrow bring new opportunities for growth, connection, and transformative magic.
Yours under the stars,
Stella
