I offered free Halloween oracle readings, as well as a piece about joining the Unitarian church called "On Being a Unitarian Pagan: Privilege and Community." I included an excerpt below:
In some situations, I can choose to pass in society as Christian. I can escape the difficulties of being more "out" as a pagan. I go to church, so I can dodge invitations by evangelical colleagues. "I already go to church," I can say. "I'm Unitarian." When a work friend asked me about my religious beliefs while carpooling, I dodged by saying what UUism is about in general. I am not fully out of either closet at work. I don't lie, but I can slip under the radar if I want to. My membership will afford me privilege that non-UU Druids, recons, Wiccans, solitary pagans, Heathens, and other pagans and polytheists often don't share. In addition to the double-edged sword that is passing privilege, I have the power of a "legitimate" organization behind me. If I am discriminated against, I can call on my church for backup. If I want to speak at an interfaith conference, I have an easier time getting a seat at the table and having my voice heard because I am a church member.
